1935 Chrysler Airflow CW 8-Passenger Sedan
1935 Chrysler Airflow CW 8-Passenger Sedan
Largest and most opulent of the revolutionary Chrysler Airflow line was the CW. It featured heavier duty mechanical components and a higher horsepower engine decorated with bright chrome. The curved windshield was an industry first. Along with its exclusive trim, it also was the only Airflow to get full wheelcovers, which were ventilated for brake cooling. While other Airflows were assembled at the Chrysler factory, the CW was hand built by LeBaron to customer specifications. Only around 100 CWs were built between 1934 and 1937 and fewer than 20 survive.

This car was built for Rose Knox, whose recipes were the basis for founding the Knox Gelatine Corporation with her husband in 1896. After his death in 1908, she ran the company for the next decades, where she was credited with being the first to institute a five-day work week and two-week paid vacation for her employees. While she was chauffeured in it, it is an eight-passenger sedan and not the available limousine with a divider glass. A unique original feature is the valance-covered window shades in the rear windows. She is pictured with the car in a story celebrating her 80th birthday in the December 6, 1937 issue of LIFE magazine.
